Fertility Surgery

Laparoscopic fertility surgery can help diagnose the cause of infertility.

Usually, it is performed only after other infertility testing has been completed.

Surgery involving the reproductive tract is now very commonly performed as minimally invasive surgery using the laparoscope. The laparoscope is inserted through a very small incision in the abdominal wall.

Abnormalities of the inside of the uterus, such as polyps or fibroids, are treated by the hysteroscope, which is an instrument that is inserted through the cervix. Through the use of minimally invasive surgery, diseases such as endometriosis, pelvic adhesive disease, tubal disease, ovarian cysts, small fibroids and tubal obstruction may all be treated on an outpatient basis. This kind of surgery is preferable because of smaller incisions and in most cases a shorter operative and recovery time.
